Reported by multiple news outlets, the Atlanta Hawks are expected to promote and offer extensions to both General Manager, Travis Schlenk, and Assistance GM, Landry Fields.
Terms of either deal have not been announced, but Schlenk is expected to be promoted to the President of Basketball Operations. This would make Fields the new GM for Atlanta, and potentially the 11th African-American GM to currently hold that position in the NBA. Fields was hired back in 2020 by Schlenk, and is viewed as a rising star in the Hawks front office. This can now be confirmed with the reports of his imminent title change and promotion.
This should be no surprise to Atlanta fans, as Schlenk has completely altered the course of this Hawks franchise in a short turnaround. Multiple draft pick hits, great free agent signings, and a super star to build around, secured Schlenk and Fields for the long-term, and the two should be around in Atlanta for a long time
