Onyeka Okongwu agreed to a 4-year extension with the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. The former-sixth overall pick, was the final player from the 2020 NBA Draft to finalize his rookie scale extension. The deadline was Monday at 6 p.m. eastern.
Okongwu is coming off his best season as a pro. He averaged 9.9 points and 7.2 rebound in 23 minutes of action last season. Look for Okongwu to creep into the starting line-up and challenge Clint Capela for starters’ minutes.
The USC-product secures his long-term deal and will now be apart of Atlanta’s long-term core of Trae Young/Dejounte Murray/De’Andre Hunter/Jalen Johnson/A.J. Griffin.
