On Sunday, Oklahoma-native, Trae Young, was honored in his hometown of Norman, Oklahoma, with the unveiling of a new athletic facility and his own street, Trae Young Drive. Unfortunately, he was not able to keep the celebration going on the court Monday night, as the Atlanta Hawks fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder, 126-117. This snapped a four-game winning streak for Atlanta.
After a tight first quarter, the Thunder commandeered this one and cruised to a relatively easy victory over Atlanta, leading by as many as 19 points, while the Hawks never had a lead in this one.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was a menace, finishing with 30 points, 6 assists, and 8 rebounds. He shot 11-20 from the field overall and canned three three-pointer’s. In his first match-up against Atlanta, quasi-rookie, Chet Holgrem, finished with a 16-point, 12-rebound, double-double, and was a presence at the rim, with 3 blocks. Jalen Williams also poured in 21 points, on almost 62% shooting.
The backcourt of Young and Dejounte Murray combined for 51 points, but also combined to shot 12-34 from the field. Murray did shoot a scorching 6-9 from beyond the arc, which was one promising facet of last night’s lose . Jalen Johnson finished with a 13-point, 12-rebound, double-double, while also chipping in 5 assists.
Ironically, Atlanta’s bench outscored OKC’s, 39-32, which is usually a winning formula, but OKC’s starters outscored the Hawks, 94-78. Overall, it was not a great shooting night for the Hawks, shooting only 37.3% from the field.
Atlanta will move on from this loss and head down south, for the their first-ever appearance in Mexico City. They will take on the Orlando Magic on Thursday, Nov. 9. Tip-off for this game will be 9:30 p.m. eastern.
