Jalen Johnson put together a monster performance at home against the Philadelphia 76ers, as the Hawks played their second straight overtime game, following their overtime-loss to the Orlando Magic last Sunday.
Johnson canned a 25-foot three point jumper to give the Hawks a three-point lead with 40.1 seconds remaining in overtime. Following a block from Onyeka Okongwu on Philly’s, Tobias Harris, Atlanta corralled the defensive board, and Jalen Johnson sank the final two free throw’s needed to ice this game and secure the win for Atlanta, 139-132.
The young forward posted an impressive stat-line of 25 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. Johnson also posted impressive shooting splits going 8-13 from the field overall, 3-4 from beyond the arc and 6-6 from the free throw line.
Trae Young kept the offense rolling with 28 points and 11 assists, and Dejounte Murray added 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Okongwu was also a huge presence with Clint Capela being out, finishing with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The Sixers were spearheaded by Harris and Tyrese Maxey. Harris was a menace from the mid-range all night, tallying up 32 points on 50% shooting. Maxey flirted with a near-triple-double of 35 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. The Sixers did not get much help from anyone else.
Atlanta now improves to 15-21 overall on the season. The Hawks will continue to enjoy their homestand with dates against the Tyrese Haliburton-less Indiana Pacers on Friday, the lowly-Washington Wizards on Saturday, and the worst team from the Western Conference on Monday, in the San Antonio Spurs. This is a prime time to get the ship back on track, especially with the way the trio of Young/Johnson/Murray are playing.
