The Atlanta Hawks added another bad loss to their first-half resume of the 2023-24 season. This time at the hands of the 12-41 (now 13-41) Charlotte Hornets, who clobbered Atlanta for a 122-99 victory at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. This was the final game before the All-Star break and Atlanta dropped down to an underwhelming 24-31 record, holding firm as the 10-seed in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Hawks shot a paltry 23.7% from three-point land, compared to 40.5% from the Hornets. They were also an inefficient 40.4% from the field overall, again, compared to the 49.4% from Charlotte. The Hawks were dominated in the paint, 52-42, with both Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu out with injury. Lastly, they were also destroyed on the fast-break scoring only 2 points compared to 21 from the Hornets.
Trae Young and Dejounte Murray both had a night to forget. The star backcourt combined to go 9-27 from the field, and 3-15 from beyond the arc. Young finished with 12 points and 12 assists, and Murray finished with 13 points.
Atlanta heads into the All-Star break and will not play again till February 24th against the Toronto Raptors. They will need a huge second-half to the season to climb the standing’s.
