Trae Young is having one of his best seasons as a pro, leading the league in total assists and assists per game, while also scoring 22.5 points a night. He has had multiple games with 20+ assists, and help keep the Hawks afloat in a deep Eastern Conference, currently enough for a play-in slot.
Yet, none of that was enough for Young to earn a spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star team, a trend that has plagued Young throughout his career.
The NBA announced the Eastern Conferences’ reserves on Thursday night and Young was notably left off the list. It is a tough decision because there are so many talented players in today’s NBA, but someone who is averaging a 20-point, double-double, and a league leader in a major statistical category, used to be a shoe-in. At this point, there is nothing but disappointment for fans of the Hawks and Young.
Young was vocal almost immediately after the decision was made, as he posted from his X account, “Y’all will hear my HONEST thoughts soon…” while promoting his From the Point podcast.
He also had a little jab at the league letting fans know, “it’s no longer getting ‘snubbed’ it’s getting ‘Traed” at this point. Sorry to my fans…it’ll change eventually!”
Young has famously been left off of All-NBA teams and now multiple All-Star game selections. For a guy that has career averages of 25.2 points and 9.7 assists per game, one can only think it is politics that keeps the former-Oklahoma product consistently out of the NBA’s top ranks.
