After a tough back-to-back loss, the Hawks have hit a three-game losing stint.
The Hawks once again blew a late lead after having an abysmal 4th quarter. There isn’t too much to say about this one. The Hawks are becoming a victim of their mindset. The Atlanta Hawks fall to the Phoenix Suns 117-121.
After a playoff run that saw a young and hungry team fight for every second of basketball, this team has seemed to lose all memory of the chip that got them into the playoffs in the first place. Now, if the Hawks were hitting open shots, I think they would be in a better position than they are now, but even then, the mistakes we are making are inexcusable.
A couple of standouts from this game; John Collins is again improving on an All-Star caliber season, dropping 26 points and 10 rebounds. Albeit quite inefficiently, Trae Young also had a pretty productive night with 31 points and 13 assists. After every loss, you could assign the same three reasons are responsible for the loss; poor shot selection, terrible play calling, and once again an all bench line up with Lou as the backup PG. All of which were staples of the LP 2020 Hawks.
There are two outlooks on the situation we are currently in. You could say that the Hawks clearly aren’t playing their best basketball, and if they can figure out their mentality and play calling, they will be in a great position. You could also say that this problem seems to go deeper than purely good players missing good shots. This team needs profound changes before reconciling another Eastern Conference Finals appearance. Both of which would be completely valid. The Hawks face off against the Golden State Warriors at 10 PM tomorrow night on Bally Sports Network.
