Congratulations to the winners of the 2021-22 NBA Championship, the New York Knicks! Just kidding, but if you asked any Knicks fan, it would certainly seem that way. The truth is, if individual regular-season wins and losses meant anything, the Hawks would have been swept by both the Sixers and Knicks this past season, but I digress.
The Hawks kept it pretty close, overall losing 90-99. The Atlanta Hawks lost a tough one last night to a conference rival, as the lack of both Cam and Bogi after halftime left them starving for offense when Trae wasn’t on the floor. The game may have seemed low scoring, and that’s because it was, the Hawks couldn’t buy a bucket in the second half, and everyone not named Trae Young seemed disinterested in even trying at some points of the game.
Overall, it wasn’t too bad for a game where one of the best offensive teams in the league can’t score and still only loses by nine against a solid opponent.
Trae Young once again tried to will the Hawks to a win, but it proved futile in the second half, as most of his passes to wide-open teammates were either mishandled or ended in a missed shot. The point in the game where I knew it was going to get ugly was when Solomon Hill received a wide-open layup just gifted to him and proceeded to miss it twice in a row.
Trae finished with 33 points and 7 assists. The next highest scorer was Clint Capela with 16 points and JC with 12 points, but it gets bleak after that. If you have been keeping up with our recaps over this past seven-game win streak, you’d know that one of the keys to the Hawks success has been getting everyone involved, some of our best games have been where there have been six or seven Hawks players who scored 10+ points, and this was just not one of those games.
A combination of bad luck and disinterest following a back-to-back likely contributed a decent amount to the game’s ending. The Hawks have a long break, playing the Pacers next on Wednesday at 7:00, on Bally Sports Network.
