The Atlanta Hawks waived back-up point guard, Patty Mills, and will use the open roster spot to convert Trent Forrest’s two-way contract to a standard NBA contract. Mills will be owed $6.8M on an expiring deal, which the Hawks will not owe any money beyond this season. He is eligible to sign with another team and play in the playoffs if he gets signed before the end of the regular season.
Mills, who is 35, was a trade causality last offseason and finally landed in Atlanta. He only appeared in 19 games for the Hawks and averaged a meager 2.7 points per game.
Forrest will now be eligible to continue playing with the Hawks after maxing out his 50-game limit via the two-way deal he was under. With Trae Young out until late-March or early-April, Forrest has a chance to solidify some solid bench minutes and make an impact.
